How to Check Your MMR in League of Legends

There is no MMR number anywhere in the League client, and Riot has never shipped an official checker. That leaves two routes: read the signals the game leaks after every ranked game, or run your Riot ID through a third-party LoL MMR checker. Both are below, along with what the number should change about your next 20 games.

What MMR Is in League of Legends, and Why Riot Won't Show It

MMR is matchmaking rating, a per-account, per-queue number Riot Games never displays. Riot's own support page says plainly that your MMR is a secret, because the rating only makes sense inside the systems that assemble your games.

It does two jobs. It picks the other nine players in your lobby, matching you with players of similar skill, and it prices every result, setting how much LP a win pays and a loss costs.

That second job is the leak. Unlike your visible rank, a cosmetic badge that moves with LP and lags reality, hidden MMR updates the moment the Nexus falls. Every figure a checker shows is an estimate of it, built from public data and carrying a real error margin.

The Fastest MMR Check: Read Your LP Gains

Since patch 26.1, baseline LP gain and loss sits at plus or minus 20, with apex tiers moved to plus or minus 30 in patch 26.9. Any deviation from 20 is the system talking.

  1. +24 or more per win, losses of -16 or softer. Your MMR sits above your displayed rank and the system is accelerating your climb.

  2. Roughly +19 to +21 with symmetrical losses. Rank and rating are in line.

  3. +15 or less per win paired with -25 or worse. Your MMR sits below your rank and the system is pulling the badge down to meet it.

Never judge this off one game. Log five wins and five losses, then average each side, leaving out autofilled games: patch 26.15 pays double LP on an eligible autofill win through Aegis of Valor.

Work Out Your Break-Even Win Rate

Now the arithmetic every checker skips. Break-even win rate equals LP lost divided by (LP gained plus LP lost).

At +18 a win and -22 a loss, that is 22 over 40, or 55%: eleven wins in every twenty games just to stand still. At +25/-15 it inverts, 15 over 40 is 37.5%, and you hold your rank losing two games out of three.

Compare that to your season win rate. If break-even sits above what you actually produce, volume will not save you.

Three More Hidden MMR Signals Inside the Client

Lobby ranks. Check the badges of the other nine players in champion select and on the post-game scoreboard. If you are Gold II and the lobby keeps filling with Platinum IV, the matchmaker already treats you as a Platinum player. Consistently facing lower-rated opponents means the reverse.

Promotion speed. Division skips, or a tier cleared in a weekend, happen when MMR runs well ahead of rank. A tier that takes sixty games means the two are locked together.

The Climb Indicator. Riot enabled it in patch 26.3 to flag when a player's rank is low but their MMR is higher, meaning they are still climbing. It prints no value, but if it is lit on your account, you have your answer.

How to Use a LoL MMR Checker

Every legitimate checker does the same thing: pull public Riot API data, run it through its own formula, return a guess.

  1. Find your Riot ID in GameName#TAG form on your client profile, then pick the server the account actually plays on.

  2. Pick the queue. Solo/Duo and Flex carry separate ratings, though since patch 26.1 the matchmaker uses your Solo/Duo rank as context when building Flex games.

  3. Read the result as a direction, not a value. "About a tier above my rank" is usable. "1,847" is not.

One safety rule, no exceptions: a real checker only needs a public Riot ID. Any site asking for your password, email or a 2FA code is a phishing page, so close it. Plenty of the tools old forum threads recommend will not help either: LoLKing is dead, and kassad.in no longer shows MMR. These four work right now.

What a Good MMR Looks Like at Each Rank

Every scale you find is a community estimate, since Riot has never published a threshold. As a ballpark: Iron 500 to 800, Bronze 800 to 1150, Silver 1150 to 1500, Gold 1500 to 1850, Platinum 1850 to 2200, Emerald 2200 to 2550, Diamond 2550 to 2900, Master from 2900, Grandmaster from 3200, Challenger from 3500.

Solo queue data from August 2026 puts 24% of the ladder in Gold, with Gold IV in the top 59.7% of players. Silver holds 21%, Emerald 13%, Diamond 4%, and Challenger is 0.023%. An MMR estimate around low Gold does not mean you are bad. It means you are the median player.

Reading the Gap Between Your MMR, Rank and LP

Three states, three different plans for the next twenty games.

MMR above rank. You gain more than you lose and the system is doing the work. Queue now, because the window closes when your rank catches up.

In line. Rank and LP are an honest reflection of your skill level, so more games move nothing on their own.

MMR below rank. You climbed on a hot streak and the rating is dragging the badge back: small gains, brutal losses. The fix is win rate, not volume, because every extra game at a losing rate deepens the hole.

Understanding why you're climbing, or why you have sat at 40 LP in Emerald IV for a month, comes down to which state you are in.

How Do I Improve My MMR?

Only Results Move the Number

Wins and losses move MMR, weighted by the rating of the lobby you beat, so beating higher-rated opponents pays more than farming lower-rated ones. KDA, CS, damage share and vision score are performance data the rating never reads. Riot went further in patch 26.15, stripping the Mastery grade requirement out of Aegis of Valor because playing for a grade instead of a win is the wrong incentive. That is the metric's honest limit: it says where you sit, never why you lose.

The Win Rate That Actually Closes the Gap

A sustained 55% or better across 20 to 30 ranked games pulls a one-tier gap back in line. A deeper hole takes 50 games or more. There is no reset, no dodge trick and no purchase that shortcuts it, and the maths is blunt: at 48% over 100 games you are not stuck, you are correctly rated.

Protect the Win Rate the Estimate Reads

Three rules hold a win rate together. Stop after two losses in a row, every time, because tilt queueing turns a 55% week into a 46% week. Keep the pool narrow, two picks per role. Review one ranked match per session properly.

The patterns behind a sub-50% win rate over 30 games are usually the same three: winning lane with no plan to convert it, recalling on a wave that hands over a free crash, and no stop-loss rule. An MMR estimate sees none of that, which is why the players who fix it fastest get their VODs reviewed by a coach who plays their role several tiers higher.

Check your LP gains, run one checker, then fix the reason those gains look the way they do. A number places you on the ladder; it cannot name the habit costing you games, so find a coach who mains your role if you want that answered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do ARAM and normal games have their own MMR?

Yes. Every queue carries its own hidden rating, so your ARAM MMR can sit a full tier above your Solo/Duo rating or well below it. Wins in ARAM, Normal Draft or Blind Pick never move the ranked MMR a checker estimates, and they never change your Solo/Duo LP gains.

Can you reset your MMR in League of Legends?

There is no reset button, and transferring servers does not wipe it. The only partial reset is the annual soft one in January, modelled by the community as (current MMR + 1200) / 2, which barely dents a damaged rating. The named exception was patch 26.9, when Riot hard reset Master, Grandmaster and Challenger MMR to Master 0 LP in NA, EUW, EUNE, BR, LAN and TR.

Does dodging champion select hurt my MMR?

Below Master, no. A dodge costs 5 LP and a six minute timer on the first offence, more after that, but champion select does not affect the hidden rating. The exception arrived in patch 26.1: apex tier players now take an LP deduction equal to a loss for dodging, and autofill status follows them into the next lobby.

Why do two MMR checkers give me completely different numbers?

Because each site invented its own tier-to-MMR scale. Gold maps to roughly 1500 to 1850 on one checker and 1200 to 1600 on another, so the same account reads 1650 on one and 1400 on the next without either being wrong. Track the gap between estimate and rank on one site instead.

Does OP.GG still show MMR?

No. OP.GG retired its independently calculated MMR, and its help centre states that Riot's official API policy prevents it from providing the indicator unless that policy changes. The OP Score you see now is a per-game performance grade, not a matchmaking rating.
