Top lane punishes small mistakes harder than any other role. One bad trade zones you off the wave, one deep shove feeds a gank, and the lane snowballs without you. Most Top players stall because they treat every game as a pure 1v1 and ignore the map.
The wall looks the same at every rank. You win lane and still lose: your Teleport goes nowhere, your waves crash at random, and your split push leaves the team fighting 4v5. Mechanics are rarely the problem. Decisions are.
A Top Lane coach watches how you actually play and fixes the choices you cannot see yourself. You get a plan for every matchup, a rule for every Teleport, and a reason for every recall. That structure is what turns lane wins into climbed ranks.
Freeze, slow push, and crash waves so every recall and trade happens on your terms.
Trade when enemy cooldowns are down, then step out before the answer comes back.
Save Teleport for plays that flip fights or objectives, not for a taxi back to lane.
Read the enemy jungler's path so you know when to shove and when to respect.
Learn when a side lane pulls two enemies and when it just leaves your team 4v5.
Play losing matchups without feeding, hold your XP, and scale into your win condition.

Every trade window, gank risk, and recall timer in Top lane starts with the wave. Freeze near your tower when you are ahead and the enemy must choose between missing farm and stepping into your all in range. Let the lane push toward you when you are behind and it gets safer without costing you XP.
Crashing is how you buy time. Build a slow push, smash it into the enemy tower, and you have earned a free recall, a Herald play, or a deep ward. Recall at random instead and you hand back everything the wave work earned you.
02
Teleport is the reason Top lane matters after the laning phase. Before you press it, ask three questions: is the fight still winnable, does your arrival flip it, and can your opponent punish the wave you leave behind. If any answer is no, keep farming.
Early on, Teleport mostly protects your wave and your tower. From mid game it becomes an objective tool: a flank onto a Dragon fight or a cross map answer to a dive. Coaches drill this decision hard because one good Teleport is often the whole game.
03
Split pushing is not just hitting towers, it is a trade you offer the enemy team. Push when you win the 1v1, when your team can hold 4v4, and when no major objective is about to spawn. If two enemies answer you, your team just gained a fight somewhere else.
The real skill is knowing when to stop. Track the map, keep the river warded, and rejoin your team before Baron or Elder forces a fight you are missing. A tower for a lost teamfight is a bad trade at every rank.

Yes. You can filter coaches by champion, so you learn your main's matchups, spikes, and win conditions from someone who plays it at a high level.
VOD reviews are best for decision patterns: wave states, Teleport usage, recall timing. Live sessions suit trading, matchup play, and habits you build in real time. Many students alternate between the two.
Yes, this is one of the most common reasons Top players book a session. A coach teaches you weak side play: concede the right trades, hold your XP, and stay relevant until your champion comes online.
